2010 to 2018

Maluma’s stage name is a combination of the first names of his father, mother and sister, which he says is a tribute to his family as they have been a driving force behind his career. From humble beginnings in Medellín, Colombia, Maluma made a name for himself in school as a great singer. He composed a song titled No Quiero at the age of 15 and got his first break when an uncle offered to record it for him as a birthday present. He began his career when he was picked up by Sony after the runaway success of his first single Falandulera on local radio. He released his first album, Magia, in 2012 - the video for the first single, Obsesión, currently has more than 185 million hits on YouTube. He broke into the US chart in 2013 with La Temperatura, reaching number 4 on the Latin Rhythm Airplay Chart. In 2015, his second album, Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy, reached number 1 on the US Top Latin Albums chart, and featured guest vocals from Latin singers Farruko, Alexis & Fido, Cosculluela, Leslie Grace and Arcángel. Maluma tickets for the supporting tour in 2016-2017 sold out in cities across the world! He appeared in four music videos in 2017 which netted him more than a billion views on YouTube combined - something no other Spanish-speaking artist has ever managed. Now in 2018, Maluma tickets for his world tour are on sale now, so don’t miss out!

Maluma: Musical style and influences

Maluma’s brand of what he calls ‘urban pop’ has strong roots in his Colombian heritage, mixing singing and guest vocals with notes of mambo, merengue and underground. But don’t call him a reggaetonero - he’s an urban performer and defines his genre as ‘the Maluma genre’. He’s been compared to ‘a Latin Justin Bieber’ and named ‘the Ricky Martin of a new generation’. He is famed for his collaborations with various Latin and international artists such as Jason DeRulo, Shakira and French Montana, and recently worked with DeRulo on the Coca Cola World Cup song ‘Colors’. Maluma cites Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson and Hector Lavoe as influences - not to mention his favourite rapper, Ja Rule - and the association is clear in his work. At only 23, Maluma is the hottest star out of Latin America in 2018, helping to define a new, more modern pop direction in mainstream, Spanish-speaking urban reggaeton. He will be appearing in cities across Germany in October 2018, so make sure you grab some Maluma tickets now before they sell out to hear it for yourself.
